P1: Explain how the digital revolution will impact on your proposal for a new product
The brief that I have chosen:
"A fashion app. This app should be a new and exciting idea based on some aspect of fashion. Fashion holds a huge market share in the digital world and an innovative new product has the potential of being very successful. The app should be new and exciting and a consideration given to future innovations."

After looking into the history of digital revolution I was able to find that most technology is heading toward globalisation. Since the invention of the world wide web in 1989 and it's eventual implementation into mobile phones in 2003, we have seen the digital revolution head toward providing content exclusively online and the largest market share holders also appear to have operated online since. The digital revolution has changed everyday life as people are now able to get anything they like with a click of a button online. Anything from food delivery to buying clothes is now mainly done through apps and the internet.
In my opinion, the digital revolution is heavily based on making peoples lives easier and more convenient and I think that is the way that it appears to be heading in at the moment. We've seen this happen with online platforms like "Just Eat" and "Deliveroo" which makes ordering food very easy and may actually make people lazy when it comes to cooking home meals. We also see this in the form of self-driving cars, with Tesla, who has created technology that actually allows people to sleep whilst their car drives for them. All in all the digital revolution is working hard to make our lives easier however there are many downsides to our lives becoming so digitised. One of the big downsides with this sort of convenience is the fact that it can make people lazy. Another downside is definitely the fact that putting everything online makes sensitive information more prone to being leaked or hacked.
Through my research I found that fashion has had a very large market share in social media apps like Instagram. There is a very large audience of all ages who look to certain platforms online in order to get inspiration for their own outfits or to be able to keep up with the latest trends and styles. I also found an interesting tool in the "Asos" mobile app where you are able to get fitted clothes by answering questions about your height, weight and fit preference. I think this tool would be useful if I were to implement it into my own fashion app as one of the biggest concerns that customers face when buying clothes online is whether or not the clothes will actually fit them. By eliminating this problem I think that a fashion app would be able to offer everything that a real shop experience can give and more.
I think that when I make my Fashion app I want to focus on giving people a platform to showcase their fashion and rate other peoples outfits rather than simply trying to sell clothing like most fashion apps out there. I think this would make my app stand out from the crowd and fill a gap in the market. I also think that people are more sceptical when it comes to new apps that try to sell them something so by giving my audience a platform and a blank canvas to express themselves I will be able to gain public trust and then find ways to make profit from the app by perhaps integrating a shopping experience behind the fashion showcase by allowing users to search for the clothes that they like on other people and purchase them for themselves as well.
Through my research I have found that when creating an app the main cost will be the marketing which you have to invest in to make the app successful and get it off the ground. Making the actual app can be done on a very tight budget and only requires some programming skill. However due to the fact that the app-store is very saturated with over 2 million apps available for download as of 2018, it is very difficult to stand out. I think that the best way to advertise a fashion app would be to pay celebrities of figures in the fashion industry to promote the app themselves. I think this would be most effective due to their star power which results in fans copying what they do and what they promote. I think this would also be effective in gaining the right kind of audience. This is because, in contrast to traditional forms of advertising, when you pay someone well known to promote your product you can easily find out what their audience is and if you want that audience then it is effective to have that person promote your product. On the other hand advertising in a traditional form like TV, where the audience might be bigger but you aren't able to target it as well so all in all the advertising can be less effective.
As time has gone on I identified that there is a trend of apps being released not only cross-platform but also cross-device. I think that it would be in my best interest to follow this trend with my own app by releasing my app on various different devices. This would feature devices which are very popular in todays market, such as Amazon Alexa enabled devices which are able to be controlled through voice commands. I think this would have an overall positive impact on my app as it would appear to be more modern as it is following a trend that people are familiar with which could effectively increase the app's user base. I think that as technology progressed there has also been a large increase in the reinventions of products such as the watch which has been reinvented into a smartwatch. I think this trend shows that the technology sector is constantly improving itself and this trend has proven to be popular as yearly Apple sells 33 million of it's smartwatches. I think that because there is such a big audience for these very modern platforms, we should definitely look to feature our app on these devices in order to reach the widest audience possible.
