P2: Create a proposal and client documentation to support the pitch
My magazine will be slightly wider than the A4 size and will be the standard magazine size of 22cm x 28.5cm, this is the normal size for almost all magazines and is there for perfect for including lots of text and images. The size of the magazine is also going to be optimal when taking into account the cost as anything larger than the proposed size would be more expensive to print without giving us any advantages.
The working title of my magazine is 'Film Freak'. I chose this title because it puts across quite well what the magazine is about whilst giving it an independent feel with the word 'Freak'. I also used alliteration in order to make the name more memorable and snappy so that the audience recognises the title more effectively. The genre of my magazine is film and film-making, both amateur and professional. I chose this genre because the topic of film is very popular for my target audience who don't usually engage in printed forms of media. It also is a topic that isn't widely covered in any other magazines or at least not combined. This gives the magazine a more of an independent feel and will fill a gap in the market which should allow it to sell easier.
The magazine's main selling point will be that it will include interviews and masterclasses from leaders in their field in the film industry which will be advertises on the front cover as the main selling point. In order to cater to both amateur and professional film makers there will also be various guides about certain camera equipment all at different price points. I will also include film reviews for film enthusiasts and various articles relating to film. The target audience for this magazine are 18-30 year olds who are used to using social media but don't often engage in printed forms of media. My target audience are also people who enjoy watching films and who are film enthusiasts. It also includes film makers who are both professional and amateur but who all aspire for something more.
The length of the magazine will only be 40 pages in order to make sure that we only feature the best and most exclusive content which would be more difficult if we had to fill 80 or 100 pages of it. The magazine will release on a monthly basis. This will give us enough time to get the necessary figures involved in the magazine and write all the articles especially considering the fact that it's only 40 pages long so it shouldn't take so long to fill it all up and due to the frequent release we'll be able to quickly build a presence in the industry. My magazine will cost roughly £6 which will give us plenty of room to buy high quality paper and lamination for the magazine to give it more of a high-end feel. It will also provide a healthy profit margin for us and the target audience I aim for has far more than enough disposable income to purchase this magazine on a monthly basis.
Magazine Covers
Magazine Spreads
I created these covers and spreads both using adobe photoshop. I first created a white page with the appropriate dimensions and then placed a grid over it in order to fit within the margins and to place anything where it is aesthetically pleasing to do so. I mainly used resizing tools on photoshop as well as various text formatting options in order to have the text fit the area and shape that I wanted it to be in. All the images I used were found through google images where I made sure to select that I only want images of a very large resolution so that the spreads look high end and high quality.
These spreads and covers will hopefully help me present to the Bauer Media Group investors so that they have a better idea of what the magazine will look like and the potential it may have. It's far superior to show them visually what it will be like rather than try to describe as they might interpret it in their own way.
The covers and spreads I produced meet the brief because they are far different to most publications seen on the shelves so it gives it an independent feel. The style is minimalistic, simple and modern and very visual so it attracts the attention of the customer whilst browsing the shelves for magazines.

Proposal
I created this proposal using a Mac OS application called KeyNote. I placed a grid over a white background so that I know where to put my titles, images and text and have it look good. I mainly used the insert image and create text box tools and I was able to resize and change the typography easily. I think the proposal is very useful for me when presenting my idea to investors from Bauer Media so that I can fully debrief what the magazine is and what how it's going to be made.
I think my proposal meets the brief because it shows that my magazine has a very independent magazine feel to it because of the modern and minimalistic design which is conventional to an independent magazine. Also the front cover of my magazine is uncluttered and very high in quality so it also stands out from most publishings where the covers are cluttered with adverts and other things.

P3: Create a pitch to communicate idea to the client
This presentation taught me that presentation layouts are best when they're simple because that way they're easier to memorise and if you also include visual prompts they will also help simulate your presentation.
I also discovered that making eye contact is very important as it creates a friendly and personal atmosphere whilst you present. It's also good to be energised so that the audience find you more friendly, approachable and are more likely to feel comfortable with asking you various questions. |

After watching this presentation I discovered that hand movement and physical gestures are crucial to performing an effective presentation. If you fail to do so your body will seem very uninviting and unnatural which will in turn cause your audience to lose interest in the presentation.
Another thing I found out was that the use of language is also very crucial. Type of language and tone should be adjusted for each type of presentation as some are more appropriate to be informal and others should remain formal and professional. |
