P5: Produce an offline edit of the promo
Below is the offline edit for my trailer.
P6: Carry out post-production processes to edit the audio-visual material to produce the final product
Below is my finished trailer after editing.
Editing process.
After finishing the basic cut of the trailer which is what the offline edit consists of, I began adding effects in order to make my trailer as effective as possible. I started off by adding the sound elements for the trailer. This consisted of dragging and dropping in copyright free music to run throughout the trailer to give the effect of continuity between shots. I then went on to add a letterbox effect on all my clips. The letter box effect adds the two black slits on top and bottom of the video which gives it the "film look" and makes the film trailer look more professional. After this I went on to add a filter over all the clips. I went with the "cold steel" filter as it gave the clips a dark and greyish looking which made the trailer look washed out which was effective as these are some of the conventions of social-realism films. Lastly I added sound effects through out the video. This consisted of the sounds like phone ringing, blood splatter and a bass rumble. I added these throughout by dragging and dropping them in correct places along my final cut pro x timeline. This makes the trailer more effective as sound effects build the atmosphere and help tell the narrative. By using sound effects effectively I was able to make a finished product that was more immersive to the audience as they were able to not only see but also hear parts of the narrative.
