P2: Set up equipment and record production materials for use in an original TV programme or short film
Below I have attached a video where I direct my actors into performing as I want them to. This is my proof of directing.
Whilst shooting my short thriller film I was able to work with actors and direct their actions in order to get the performance out of them that I wanted. In the clip above I follow the script closely and I tell my actor what he should be doing and when. This particular scene that I was shooting required no audio so therefore I was able to talk whilst recording it which allows the actor to have perfect timing in his actions as he followed my directions. I was also in charge of filming my whole project as well as setting up the camera. I was using a CANON 750D for this shoot as it is of a higher quality than the cameras provided to me by my college and also I don't have to share the use of it so I can shoot for as long as I want. This freedom allowed to me take as many takes of scenes as I needed which in turn allowed me to produce a higher quality video in the end.
I didn't follow my storyboard as closely as I followed my script. This was because my drawing skills aren't good enough to the point that I can realistically draw different fields of view or different angles of the shot. Therefore I ended up mainly using my best judgement whilst filming. This allowed me to get the best shot each time as I was able to pick the angles on the day depending on where my actors were and what looked best. As for my sound I used the inbuilt microphone in my camera. This is because it is quite good for the purpose of making a short student film. It also saved me a lot of time if I were to record the audio separately and then have to match it up. If this wasn't a student production but instead a professional production with a budget, I would have been recording on a better camera and had a camera man that I directed. I would also have a sound technician that would be recording the audio with something like a boom microphone.
