P6: Develop an original character to be included in the planned story
The two protagonists in my comic, Albert and Leon, are both portrayed as fairly cartoony and unrealistic characters. Their features are nothing like those of a real person and their features and bodies are fairly square, however this has no underlying meaning. Their appearance is only a reflection of my drawing of an art style I developed and doesn't reflect them as characters. I made them quite simple in order for the audience to be able to relate to them more than if they had distinct features.
The protagonists are both dressed similarly. Leon wears an old stained shirt which is rolled up at the sleeves to portray his rebellious nature. He also wears a vest on top of that to signify he is older than Albert as it is a common clothing item for older men. He wears old brown shoes in order to also portray his age and his collar is popped up which is mean to show that, although he attempts to dress for his age, he is still young at heart and underdeveloped. Albert on the other hand is dressed much more casually. To portray that he's younger than Leon he wears a simple t-shirt and white sneakers to seem more youthful. Even though Leon is dressed more young and clean he still doesn't take care of himself under Leon's influence and has hit rock bottom, I portrayed this by drawing him missing a sock to represent he is currently lost in his life, the way his sock is lost.
The clothing for the protagonists doesn't change at all throughout the comic apart from minor details like wear and tear and various accessories being added and removed throughout the story. The colours chosen for their clothes are fairly dull, dark, and flat. I made this choice in order to show their lack of funds for fancy clothes and colours as well as to show their clothes are worn out and rarely cleaned. The use of brown and dark purple colours on Leon show he is older and more worn out than Leon's, less worn out but never the less worn out, dark greens and yellows.
The traits of the two protagonists will mainly be shown through dialogue. For example, Albert is well spoken compared to Leon due to Albert's academic past. On the other hand Leon will speak simply and at times will appear to be confused. Their vocabulary will also differ to portray their personalities as Leon is much more of a simple and uneducated man so his vocabulary will be limited to simple sentences and dull language which will make him a much more of a comedic character. Albert, however, will be more outspoken and possess more of a colourful vocabulary which will allow the two to have comedic conversations for the audience to enjoy.
